Does anyone have a source, or even some wood they'd be interested in parting with. I've got a commission for a Peterson Sherlock Holmes in strawberry. I think I got Steve's (Vermont Freehand) last piece, and it was just too small.
Let me know! I'll be grateful for any help you can offer.
Brian.

Kansas City Show (Share a table?)
Hey guys, I'll be heading to the KC show again this year. Any of you looking to share a table? I definitely don't need a full one. I haven't registered for one yet either. In fact, I'm not sure if they're still any available or not. Let me know, if you have one and want to share, or if you don't and...

I apparently haven't seen your work in a while... Holy shiitake mushroom batman!!! That's amazing. I mean, your work has always been incredible. But your fit and finish continue to get better and better.

Re: Growley Pipes - Going Full Time
Thanks guys. So far, (I know it's only day 2) things are going well. I've finished two pipes, one for the site and one commission, and I've got 3 more commission pipes to work on. Now, if I could quadruple that and double my prices at the same time, I might just make it.

Re: Growley Pipes - Going Full Time
Congrats on becoming your own man, and good luck! btw -- since this is the general board not the gallery, did you want feedback on the pic? Nah, feedback would break my fragile brain at the moment. Thanks for asking though. With as zoned out as I am, I'm afraid a lot of great critique would go wast...

Growley Pipes - Going Full Time
Hey guys, I haven't been able to be on here very much lately. In fact, I've barely been able to do anything pipe related lately. Work has been running me ragged. Well, it looks like that's all changing. Last Wednesday I quit my job to give pipe making a try full time. Today was the first day in the ...

Re: Well, goodbye pre-ban ivory
Looks like pre-ban ivory is done. Just got an email from Elephant Ivory Tusks last night. I wonder where people will go to get ivory now that they can't get it legally? That's not a real question. Please don't answer it. I'm going to go look at the worthless ivory in my shop. Poop. andrew Well, you...

Re: Who wants an order for 5-10 pipes?
Note to self: 1. Acquire cheap ebauchons. 2. Drill some holes in them. 3. Print out 1.5" x 1.5" pictures of George Whitworth. 4. Paste pictures to the front of each "fine art" pipe. 5. (optional) Be-dazzle. 6. Sit back and wait for the money to roll in. I love option #5. I've go...

You could offer to make her some basic Dublins or Billiards and have his likeness laser-cut into the faces of them. I can't imagine how she expects to get 5-10 miniature, hand-made sculptures by April's end. I've been getting wood laser engraved for almost 20 years now. It works great, and brings t...

Who wants an order for 5-10 pipes?
The oddest request I've ever received...."An order for 5-10 pipes to be carved in the likeness of this man http://whitworth10.files.wordpress.com/2011/02/george.jpg , to be raffled off for cherity at Whitworth college - http://www.whitworth.edu/onemillionmeals/ . Apparently he's the founder, an...

Re: Files Help Needed
ORDERED!!! Got the Grobet 6" Equalling 0,2, and 4. That should should do it pretty well. Any time I can get a high quality tool (or 3 in this case) for under $100 bucks, I'm pretty happy.
Thanks again for your help.

Re: Files Help Needed
Perfect. Thanks guys. I think I'll give the Swiss Grobet Vulcrylic a try. They sound pretty good. I don't use files on the briar at all, so these sound like the winners for stems.
I appreciate your help!

I'm hoping you can help me out. I've finally decided to bite the bullet and get some good files. I'm using them only for stem work, but I'm finding that I'm using them a lot lately. I need some help identifying what works best for our hobby. I'd like a set that takes me from rough shaping to fine tu...
