Pipe reaming tool

Does anyone have any sources for buying a good adjustale type pipe reaming tool? I've seen one that can be expanded as the pipe cake is reamed out. I've been repairing pipes fro a local pipe shop and I thought it might be useful to have one.

Cummins lath

Gary did you bore yours out to 13/16"? If so how did you do it?

I wanted to use my lathe for turning the tennons on pre-made bits but, all of the one I have are too wide to fit comfortably in my chuck. I need to go well past the jaws in order to hold the bit tightly in order to turn it.

Cummins chuck

CTMachinist
I just got my Cummins lathe. I noticed that the hole in the center of the chuck is NOT 3/4" dia. Is it possible to open it uo to 3/4". I didn't measure it but, I did try to put a 3/4" rod thru it and that's how I noticed it was small.

Thanks for the advice. Have you made any pipes yet? I'm working on #7 right now, I should be done next week if the 'Honey Do' lists gets smaller.

I'm in the Bridgeport area and I think there's a CTM Machine shop down the street form work I thought maybe it was you. I've had limited experience with metal lathe's from my model making days. I'm anxious to see how the Cummins mini-lathe works for me.

CTMachinist...Are you modifying your Cummins lathe for any particular reason? I just ordered one for myself. Are you in Connecticut?

Inlays and stem extensions

What's the preferred method for doing stem extensions or inlays. I started doing stem/stummel extensions by gluing the contrsating wood or acrylic to the stummel. The reason I've been doing this is because I don't have a lathe yet in order to extend the tennon on a stem to allow for the extra materi...

Let me know how you like it. I was thinking of getting the Grizzly version but, after checking out the links you provided I may get one of the other ones that were compared.

The one source I've found so far is in Long Island, New York. I spoke with him earlier today and he said if I gave him a design he could quote on a stamp for me. He makes a metal stamp with a handle. The handle can be removed and the stamp portion can be used on a drill press to literally press your...

Putting your name on pipes

Can anyone supply me information on how to put my name on the pipes I make? Michael Lindner gave me the name of a place that makes stamps.

Does anyone else do something different?

Hi hazmat I plan to use the lathe primarily to help partially turn the bowl and stummwel. I was thinking of getting a metal lathe so that when I was ready to start making my own stems I would already have the tool. I've made six pipes so far all of which are hand carved and I bought stems. I want to...

Kurt - Do you use the Pimo tool? I did purchase it and have had success with it after I learned that its a little sloppy. I have plenty of wood working tools except for a lathe. I did think of getting a wood lathe but, then thought I would get more use from the metal lathe. Do you or anyone else out...

Thanks Craig!
What do you think of the Grizzley metal lathe? They have a 9"x19" for around $800.00.
