Re: 2012 Pipe In the Hat Trade

It saddens me greatly to have to tell you all that I've not been able to complete a pipe for the PITH. Maybe next year I'll be able to get my crap together.

Re: 2012 Pipe In the Hat Trade

Hey all! Sorry I've been away for a few months. I've been trying my hand at growing my own tobacco but more on that in a different thread. I'll will make an attempt for this years PITH. Count me as tentative. I can't believe it's that time again already. I just started carving again after a 4 month ...

I think its mostly because they don't finish well. Other than that, a lot of them don't bend well, or machine easily. Also, a lot of them are too soft to handle the abuse.

Nope, not that I've ever read or experienced. It has a very neutral taste and to be honest I've been thinking that I prefer it to briar. That is of course just my opinion.

Re: looking for a couple of blocks of strawberry wood

The thing I'm not sure about is the difference between european strawberry wood and american. To be honest, I'm not too sure. I've seen info saying they are the same and info saying they are completely different. All I can say is madrone (american strawberry wood) smokes great, takes a beating, and...

Re: Strawberry Tree

Has anyone found a place that sells this wood ready for pipe making? Also, has anyone made a pipe using the Madrone burl? If so--post picts. Thanks. These two are both madrone. Not that my pipemaking skills do it much justice. I purchased mine from http://www.woodheadz.com Thats good to know that M...

I'll offer a few opinions on the subject. I don't speak from experience. #1 Both, no reason to limit yourself to one or the other. Remember that selling through a local shop is going to reduce your potential profit, the merchant needs to be able to make a profit too. I too have had a couple local me...

For whole leaf I know of no better place than www.wholeleaftobacco.com and if you sign up on the www.fairtradetobacco.com forum i think you can get even better discounts. I've been working on planting a little tobacco patch this year and those guys have been a huge help.

I see you say you had some symmetry issues with bowl, but there's something about that line on the front of the bowl, running top to bottom, that I'm really liking. Looking good!

Are all of you smoking meth in your pipes? Not only NO but, HELL NO! Aside from that. As I have yet to complete a pipe with a great finish, I would certainly concede that my way is sure to not be the best or right way. I will try some fluffy cleaners in my future attempts. :notworthy: Your guidance...
