Re: Back At It

Welcome back. I was also a pipe maker who had returned, although my hiatus was 40 years. There were no forums way back then. I have also retired, am a grandpa, and have been setting up a shop. I feel like a Rip Van Winkle who slept 40 years. DocAitch Nice to make your acquaintance, looks like we ha...

Back At It

Friends, I spent several years on this forum back in the early 2000's. This is a great community of very helpful artisan's and craftsman. I appreciate both Kurt and Tyler for their hard work and dedication to keeping this forum alive. I learned a lot over the years and through the help of many on th...

All of you pipemakers...I have two pipe domains for sale. If you are interested in setting up your own website for displaying your works of art for hobby or sale you might be interested in these. I'm not a Domain marketer so I have no idea what these are worth...i'm thinking $100. I do know that if ...

Here are the pics I promised. I've added a couple of things, and one correction. The Roughing Gouge is 3/4" not 1 1/4". Also, payment will have to be through PayPal. When I receive payment I will mark the items as SOLD. http://www.jarthurpipes.com/jamie/bandsaw1.jpg http://www.jarthurpipes...

Selling Pipemaking Tools

Well it pains me, but nevertheless I just do not have the time to commit to pipemaking anymore, and I need the space. So, I'm selling most of my tools, and all of my supplies. Eventually, I will put this out on EBAY, but I wanted to give my friends at Pipemakersforum the first chance. I will ship th...

Try a twist drill instead of a Forstner. You can knock the edges of the point down and it'll drill a slightly smaller hole. Start with a center drill, of course. That is a great suggestion. I'll give it a try. Not sure why I didn't think of that. I can shape the tenon to fit nice and tightly to the...

Delta Midi Lathe - Tenon Procedure

For the last two years I have used my Delta Midi Lathe to execute the "Kurt Tenon Procedure". Usually, when I take my time it has been tremendously successful... 5/16" mortise on the shank and the 5/16" delrin tenon fits great. Recently however, something has changed. The mortise...

So is cutting the Tenon always an iterate process....cut it to approximate size, then test the fit, then sand, then test etc.

I've been using the "Kurt Delron" method up to this point. But I was going to begin trying actually cutting the tenon on my next pipe.

Craftsman 109 Metal Lathe

Hey guys, you may be able to take advantage of my circumstances. Unfortunately, I need to sell my Craftsman 109.21270 Metal Lathe. This lathe is a real classic in the mini-metal-lathe catagory. It includes a good heavy duty motor (Dayton 1/2 horse, 1725 rpm, Capacitor start), threading gears, one cu...

My First Sold Pipe - Canadian

I have passed an important milestone...this is the first pipe I have sold. I went to a pipe smoker friend of mine, and asked him to take a chance on my next pipe. He wanted a Canadian. This is somewhat a modified canadian because my largest plateau wasn't large enough. I compensated by adding length...
