Scott, to get the right angle just use a shim which is matching the size of your drill bit, fit it in the middle of the blade of the bit and draw the angle on the blade. If you adjusted it perfekt in the middle - nothing is looking over the border at on of the sides - you'll get a perfect symetry bl...

Hi David, I just made 9 pipes and I'm working on #10 and 11. :D The first try was on a single plateau from Dan pipe nearly without any problems - at the end no visible pit or flaw, but some corrections of the shape. The second single block was also from Dan Pipe and I had two good visible spots whic...

Thank you guys,

I just got an answer from my customer: No repair, no blasting or rustication, but I'm allowed to change the shape! :D

The spot is about 2 mm deep and the wall at this point is actually 9 mm - so perhaps I can save this one...

Repairing spots and flaws?

I'm just working on an customer giant billiard - my first customer pipe! The shape is nearly ready and looks like this: http://www.hg-doeteberg.net/pfeifen/billiard01.jpg Then happened what had to and I got this spot/hole at the bottom of the bowl: http://www.hg-doeteberg.net/pfeifen/billiard02.jpg ...

Scott, this is a very nice pipe! I like the grain and the color on the border of the bowl! Very good work. A poker isn't any of my favorites, but with this one it may be worth to think about the shape again... I can't see anything from your disaster with the stamp, so you managed it very good, I thi...

Very nice shape and superb blasting so far... But it seems that the discussion about stemwork is starting over... In my eyes the stem junktion is a little bit to steeply - looks like the stem could be longer in this case... Or the first part from the bowl a little bit straighter before it get...

Very interesting discussion, Tyler (and all  ). Beauty and aesthetics are subjective impressions at all, I think - but not at 100 %! Let's stay by the pipes: "Good" briar, "nice" grain, "harmonik" shape and "elegant" lines, "nice" stemwork - al...

Rhodesians are not my favorite shape - but this one is great! From the top view the stem looks very good, from the side it seems that it could be bent a little bit more on the upper side - but that should only be an agrrement to your selfe criticle statement...

Very nice pipe! Superp grain!

John, you've made two beautiful pipes! Nice shapes and great finishes. The rusticated looks very good with the stain you used and the second pipe has a great grain! Congrats to this work!

Personally, I like your pipe better than the Stanwell. :thumb: Yes, your pipe is much more better then the original! My comments earlier in this thread were given before I could see the new pics - in comparisson to the Stanwell you did a very good job with your interpretation. I like long pipes, bu...

I agree with marks: The shank bowl junktion seems a little bit to fat to me too - but overall it fits to the pipe! Very nice shape and stem. Do you made it with or without filter chamber?

Sory, but both, bowl and shank, are looking a little bit like a knob and in different lines. If the shank would be in an unique hight and oval in the width it may look better (more lank)? But if you want to keep the wave, I would look for symetric lines on the upper side and the bottom of the...

Overall a very nice pipe - you can't do anything against flaws than destroy a pipe by grinding too much, so don't worry about this! The angel of the bowl/shank seems to be a little bit too wide, but if it's smokable... Very nice grain and a wonderful smooth surface on stem and stummel - perhaps you ...

Great work indeed! The bowl and the shank are very pretty. For my eyes the stem is a little bit too long, or the junktion from the saddle to the button looks someway out of round - but that's only my subjective mind! Very nice extension and all the colors fit very well. I would be courios how the st...

Thank you for your kind comments, guys! @ achduliebe: I grind down with 600 abrasive cloth, polish with steel wool Gr. 000, buff with a brown kind of wax (from DanPipe) and then with a clean buffing wheel - sometimes I use a coat of carnauba wax, but it's still not necessary and I didn't on this ste...

I agree tu Kurt's description, but I use a 1.5 mm drill bit... You can shape the stem just down to 3.5 mm befor the button and the button can be 4.5 mm thick and 2.5 to 3.5 mm long. The stem will be comfortable and thin enough, I think and you can better get through with the cleaner... The button ha...

Or am I completely going wrong? :D Not realy! In this case I second your opinion! I tried it on my first handcut stem and destroyed it by grinding to much material off the bit! You'll never get exactly into the corners without hurting the bit - and a sharp stepped and flat bit is what I want on the...
