But overall knowledgement and feeling for symmetry and finish has improoved a lot... Rainer is every year participant of the Chicago Pipe Sh...

Frank, very good job for the first pipe! I'll agree to Nick, that's nearly too perfect, but on the other side, I also tried to make "perfect" symetry at first... :D Over all a very nice pipe! Some questions: How did you shape the bowl? On a lathe? What material ist the stem? Handcut or pre...

Now it's a matter of trial and error in the drilling after process, since very little information is out there regarding the drilling procedures with the shape first method. I'm still wondering, how easy that method is! I leraned it from Rainer Barbi: First mark the middle of your tobacco chamber o...

Drilling first and lathe shaping is, hands down the fastest way for me to make a pipe, allowing me to offer those pipes at inexpensive prices. Shaping first takes more time, so I have to charge more. And it's not like I'm going to make a billiard or a bulldog by shaping first and then drilling it -...

Hakan,

you may also try to contact Peter Klein in Germany http://www.kleinpipes.de

He's selling all usually used parts from pipemaker to pipemaker, but I can't say, if he'll send them to Turkey. Send him an email and ask for his pricelist.

Hi Steve, the bottom of the tobacco chamber is an "U" as usuall... I think I'd a little trouble with the light while taking the pics? And the angle is a little bit to the left (in the pic). As example you can't see the airway. Sorry guys, but I'm still trying to learn to make better pipe p...

Hi Bob Gilbert,

the "ring" is only a light reflection... The border of the tobacco chamber is slightly rounded.

How I do my stemwork

After the great photo-story from Kurth and Trever's advice I want to tell and show you, how I do my stemwork. Some words as introduction: I often see stems with convex or concave curves from sattle to bit. I think, and Rainer Barbi told me too, that is the wrong way! It needs a lot of time and often...

I don't know if I can describe it correctly, but for acrylic it may be an alternative way to use a separate tennon... Nylon or delrin are buyable in different diameters as example at http://www.janzen-pfeifen.de/frameset.html If you can drill a centered, fitting hole into the stem, you can glue this...
