My father smokes a pipe, when I was a kid I used to go with him to the home of the very talented Canadian pipe maker John Calich. Howdy, Often there is some shrinkage in old stems etc. that causes the threaded ones not to line up anymore. The easiest way to deal with the problem is probably to fashion a thin spacer to go between the stem and the shank. The spacer will take up the room left by the shrinkage. Even a sliver of pa...

Very beautiful, it's a pleasure to see one cleaned up like that, It looks better then new. I have the same lathe in considerably rougher condition. How did you get the ways, cranks etc. so clean?
