Somthing for my wife

I was inspired to make something for my wife, and here's what came out:: http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y373/minzelandril/DSC_0458.jpg http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y373/minzelandril/DSC_0459.jpg http://i1031.photobucket.com/albums/y373/minzelandril/DSC_0460.jpg http://i1031.photobucket.c...

1949 Craftsman metal lathe

Well, I'm selling my smaller lathe. I don't quite remember the model number. The lathe is in good shape, with a new 4 jaw independant chuck and new tool holder. I have a few bits too. Tailstock has a jackobs chuck. Let me know if you're interested.

Re: Rhodesian vs Bull Dog

As I remember, a bullcap or bullmoose generally has a more jutting chin, but may not have anything in common with a bulldog.

Rhodesian - round. Bulldog - not round

I've even heard some pipe freak out there is making some junky thing he calls a Radisian. Dude is a loon!

An Anne Julie inspired pipe

Well, i finally took another swing at a floral themed pipe. The pipe came out really well. My best yet. Not perfect though. The silver isn't quite a flush fit. Just a hair off here and there. The stem could be a bit longer. Ohh! One thing i did learn, when using a colored , carved stem, make sure th...

Re: New pipe - sort of a brandy

Sell schmell. Even if you do sell a few pipes, you'll not make up your costs. Hold off until you're ready.

When I retire, in about 30 years, then maybe I'll be ready. Maybe.

Until then, its just a hobby, and it comes with associated expenses like any hobby.

Re: the "Rose"

I'm not too fond of the shank and stem, but the bowl shaping is simply awesome. Just wonderful. i totally love it. The shank and stem seem too busy for the bowl, to my eye.

Re: Still Trying to Expand My Knowledge Base

I have one of those flip books, like kids have? Where you have the head of one animal, body of another and tail of a third. Except mine has bowl, shank and stem. I just toss the book in the air and make what comes up.

Actually, its not really a bad idea...

Re: Wood question

the solution is not to add "strength", but to add "flexibility. Look at the shaft of a hammer; one would recommend steel, because this is strong ... just try it and you 'll know why not :-) ... or oak, or ebony .... all wear resistant, but brittle, so there's not absorbtion of vibrat...

Re: On buttons and things

Wuite to the contrary. Our preconceptions of Ahab as a vengful nearly psychotic character lead us to see him as either of lesser import or down right bad - I am refraining from saying evil. But if you approach the book from the point of view that this man has been wronged and is doing his best, in h...

Wood question

OK, so I know that some of you guys have a bit of knowledge about more than just briar - unlike me. So that catapult my son and I made is way cool. We had to add a longer throwing arm. Unfortunately, all I has was plain of pine 2x4s. The longer arm got alot more distance, but the after the first few...
