Re: Where to buy tobacco?

FMAtP is now available here: http://www.smokingpipes.com/tobacco/by-maker/mcclelland/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=8159 I believe Penzance has been discontinued, but I'm not 100% on that. Unfortunately, I do believe that Dunhill's 965 is just a memory now. I've purchased from a number of online retailers,...

Re: Junk Briar to Sell?

Michael Parks used to have $2 blocks, then it went to $3, not sure what they cost now. Not the best blocks, but you won't feel guilty if you screw up, and there's nothing like practicing on the real deal materials. Looks like he might be out; I don't see any on his site. I'll check back periodicall...

Junk Briar to Sell?

Hi All,
I'm looking for some inexpensive briar to learn on. Cracks and sand pits don't matter - as long as it'll hold together for shaping. I'd rather buy 10+ blocks so I can avoid spending too much on shipping. If you have anything PM me with costs and we can work out payment and details. Thanks!

It should be used as a starting point for thinking about what you want to use, and not as a The Pipe Tooling Gospel According To Kurt. Well, from what I've seen and read on the forum, I don't think a "Pipe Gospel According to Kurt (or Rad, or Tyler, or a dozen others)" would be a bad thin...

Tool Set-Up

So here's my basic question: What are the most important tools to buy, and in what order? More details below. Thanks for the info on metal lathes. Now I'm slightly depressed - I was hoping to be able to sink less than $1000 and have a decent pipe-making set-up. (I realize I could buy files and sand ...

Besides, those $300 import 7" lathes are notorious pieces of crap. Underpowered, flimsy, plastic gears, blech. I actually can't think of a good 7" lathe. Well, I certainly don't want any "notorious pieces of crap" in my shop! You also said: "It takes some luck and knowledge...

First Metal Lathe

Hi All, I'm new here, and I really enjoy the site. I don't have a lathe, and I was wondering if a 7"x12" is sufficient for at least the majority of lathe-related tasks. If that's too small, is 7"x14" that much of an improvement? Specifically, I was looking at the model found here...
