Re: Jaws For Holding Briar in Your Chuck!

Hey there everyone, I haven't left you really. Just a lot going on in my life in the last 4-5 years. Major changes knocked me around a bit but I'm getting the hang of it in what I call my second life. I won't go into details and bore any of you. But, if you want to know and have nothing much to do I...

Re: Fiber disc?

I actually use the heavy backed sanding discs that are used on angle grinder. I have mine mounted on a plastic back plate that is just a little smaller than the sanding disc. This gives me a little flex around the edges that helps when doing some slight shaping while still removing a good amount of ...

Re: New DRO!

With the use of the new DRO the small hold down clamps were easy too make and look good. I decided it was time to grow a little bit and now have a much larger mill. 2hp motor and a 9x29 table. I'm converting it over too a variable speed 2.25 treadmill motor and ordered the same DRO for the bigger mi...

Re: New DRO!

It is Chris......... I learned quite a bit with the little project of the rotary table and the pallet/top that I made for it. I drilled and tapped holes on the top of it and next I'm going to make some miniature clamps for holding material down on it. I used the same size allen head screws on that a...

Re: New DRO!

Your correct Chris. But, I'm sure since I use the lathe for a lot more than pipe making things I'll find a 2 axis DRO very handy on the lathe as well. But, I do need to do a bit of adjusting on the tail stock on it though. I have been working on a couple projects using the mill with the new DRO........

Re: New DRO!

If it works that's all that matters. I do it for some accuracy and repeatability. I really like it on the mill. For the lathe I've seen a simple Read Out made with dial indicators used and simply held on with earth magnets. Works well for some things. I used the mill with the DRO for the first time ...

Re: New DRO!

I plan too move the old one to my lathe....... I'll just mount the scales using earth magnets so that I can easily remove them if I don't need them. I'll use it until the scales no longer work. Chris, what type DRO do you have on your lathe? does it use the glass scales or some other type. That's wh...

New DRO!

Well, I know this doesn't really have much to do with pipe making unless your using one of my sets of jaws of course. I've been using a grizzly mini-mill for bout 3 years now to make my jaws, among other things. I had a custom made DRO on it that uses scales made from calipers that were then wired i...

I love this pipe........ I have found myself over time moving from bent pipes to straights when smoking and love the shape and design of this one and have always been a sucker for a Canadian shape.

Re: Concern for weight on headstock spindle

I think that the head stock on the Jet should be more than robust enough too handle it bearing wise........... But, the more pressure you put on the assembly at that distance the more you have to worry about problems over time I would think. If it were me the last thing I'd want to do is use a sandi...

Re: Used set of Smokindawg Chuck Jaws - $50

I've sold many sets of these over the years with no complaints and this is the first set I've seen anyone sell after purchasing them. I've had plenty of positive comments. For a pipe maker starting out, this is a very good deal and I think you'll be happy if you purchase these jaws. You definitely c...

Re: Jaws For Holding Briar in Your Chuck!

I think I've pretty much told the ones I have sold chucks too the way I mount mine when putting them on the chuck. Mount the chuck jaws on the chuck just to the point that they can still move on the chuck. then take small square of wood or metal and open the jaws so that this can be put between the ...

I don't have much of anything left........... I'd have to look thru my shop and see. I did keep a few things as I may want to make a pipe or two some time.

Re: Tinned Tobacco For Sale!

I'm sorry it's been so long since I posted or answered any messages. It's been a busy few months with my work and family things, but I'll get the list of tobacco I have cleaned up and figure out just what I have left. I can then send the list out to those wanting it. Please send a message by PM with...

Re: Show me your work shop

I've made lots of changes in my shop and actually have two in one. I also do a lot of different things. I'll have to take and post a few pictures when I get home from this work trip. I have the tools to do mechanics, metal fab, wood working and also a small machine shop with a lathe and a small mill...
