Re: Anse Hatfield's pipe

What an awesome mini-series. The pipe does look like both a cutty and belge hybrid but small and dainty like a pocket pipe. Needless to say, I want one! I think that might be my next pipe on the workbench. Does anyone know if Kevin Costner is pipe smoker in his off the screen life? He seemed to be a...

Cutty information

Anybody have information on what the typical degree of forward cant the cutty shape typically has?

For years I have been wanting to try this shape and just coming back from a two year hiatus, I feel now is the time.

Any information you can help out with would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bryan

Wow, thanks guys. I am really surprised by that but don't blame the guy a bit. Specially having a child now, that kind of changes the picture a bit.

Good for Todd, I look forward to seeing him back on the pipe scene even if it is only on occasion.

Thanks guys!

Where is Todd Johnson?

Is Todd Johnson still around?

I check his site every couple of months or so but there have not been any changes in about a year. I haven't seen him post here in quite a while either.

Hopefully he is just busy busy busy making killer pipes.

Anybody heard from him lately?

Customer Thoughts

So, I haven't had much time to make pipes lately due to a nasty sinus infection and that infection having it's way with everybody else in the house. So, since I have been out of the work shop I decided to add a 'Customer Thoughts' section to my web site. If you have some spare time, take a look and ...

The problem with the small bit falling out of your rotary tool can be resolved by getting a smaller collet. They usually sell different size collets where they sell the rotary tools.

Scott,

That is sweet, I am no expert in the specifics of classical shapes but it looks awesome to me.

Nice job!

Thanks Nick and Steve for the compliments. I am very pleased with the outcome but do see many shortcomings in it now. It was definitely a learning experience in many ways. It will be shipped out to it's new owner tomorrow and I am off to the next one. Thanks guys for your critiques and helping me re...

Thanks Ray!

Souljer,

I was going to re-work the stem a bit last night but the pipe sold late yesterday afternoon. So I will definitely keep John's suggestion in mind on the next one.

As for the length of the pipe, it is right at 6.5 inches.

John, That is a huge difference! Wow. I think I will work on that tonight. You know I think I need to start bending earlier in process also. After I bent this one, all I did was do finish sanding at a high grit. Thanks again John and no I do not mind getting critiqued, especially from someone who kn...

Hey John, Thanks for your thoughts. I see what you mean about the underbelly of the stem, I missed that. It is always nice to have someone with a good artistic eye to critique your work. I really appreciate that, I am honing my skills with every pipe. It is great to get this kind of feedback to help...

Thanks for the comments. I agree that there needs to be more contrast with the horn. Even holding the pipe in your hand it is not very noticeable. That was my first time working with any kind of horn so it was an experience. It is one of those things that I can notch on my belt. (Note to Self: don't...

New Addition - Shroomigami

Well I tried my hand at shaping first then drilling. I am pretty pleased with the results. Also, the fancy little ridge on the stem is made out of water buffalo horn. Please take a look and let me know what you think. (Side Note: The chamber was drilled with a silver and demming bit that I had resha...

Well I just came in from outside and the temp out there is a lovely 107 with about 70 or 80 percent humidity. And I do say that with sarcastic overtones.

I was born and raised in central SC and I have never gotten used to the heat, it really sucks.

Dude that is very nice. I love the stem and love the shape of the pipe.

Great job, awesome stem and what is even more awesome is the fact that it is your first hand cut. Sweet!

WOW Kurt, beautiful. The blasted blowfish/discus pipe is incredible. I LOVE the stem on the smooth blowfish/discus pipe. Thanks for the link, I will have to check them out. Some nice looking materials.
