Re: Bent billiard
Thanks Joe, and I agree that I could have trimmed some fat at the bowl shank junction. I always get a little nervous about hitting the airway in that area on more aggressively bent pipes. I believe that is what causes the bowl to seem a bit small. The stem was intentionally made to be longer than mo...

Re: Bent billiard
And sorry about the steel ball in the chamber pic. I was using it to stabilize the pipe while photographing. Drilling is as good as it should be

Bent billiard
I'm very happy with this bent billiard I finished. There are only a few minor things I might change on the next one. Let me know what you think. And I apologize for my poor photography :/ http://i959.photobucket.com/albums/ae77/Twisted_Whiskerz/6642B807-F970-4308-B890-FBBC76160D67.jpg http://i959.ph...

Oh yeah!sandahlpipe wrote:I actually have a prince someone made me with bowl/chamber proportions identical to this. It does make me nervous to smoke and I'm careful. It hasn't shown any signs of burning out.
I'll bet it's super light, though!
Re: Prince
Not bad. The only other thing I would add that you didn't mention is that the chamber is a bit big for the size of this pipe leaving the chamber walls thinner than they should be. I'd definitely coat the bowl. Thanks Wayne, I thought that also and checked the thickness. It is a little over 1/8 at t...
Prince
Overall I'm pretty happy with this pipe. I do however feel I could have done better. I know I put a can't to the bowl and that is not a typical characteristic of of a prince. I also noticed after beginning the finishing process that I should have shaped it like a a ball and then work the back side o...

Seriously, I can't stop coming back to look at it. It really stands out, and the color coordination is outstanding.

Re: Bamboo Poker
There is something about the over all composition that I actually like. It has a very dark age feel to it. I see the same things that everyone else has pointed out, but I like the slight curve of the bamboo and the way the the stem flows out like a hawks beak. I also like the domed rim and the rusti...

Re: KC carving contest judge change
It looks like "enthusiasm leavened with a bit of trepidation" best summarizes the collective mood. In other words, we picked exactly the right guy. The idea since its inception was to make the contest the opposite of those feelgood county fairs where the mayor's niece, or the daught...

I usually shape, sand, buff with red then white, then bend, then sand any micro rippling or distorted lines with 400, then repeat red, white, and then wax.

Re: Interesting editorial by Mike Glukler
I think this guy left out out so many of the "elite" pipe makers. And does he not realize that they all started off at much lower levels of skill I'm sure. Everyone has to start somewhere, and the ones that are capable of learning and applying the skills needed to make high end artisan gra...

Re: Wiggly stems....
Just out of curiosity what is everyone's thoughts on delrin sleeved mortise? I really find the function to be more beneficial. I have stopped doing this for the most part based on the consensus that people tend to look away when the know it has a delrin lined mortise. I have three customers that hav...
