Very interesting comment form Pierredekat I will predict that the same thing will happen with this as happened during the prohibition era. They made alcohol illegal and I think they probably did it for morally right reasons. Alcohol abuse is not a pretty thing. But the effect was not the one they wa...

I found this on Grizzly's web site. It would be hard to make this for $40 and it looks like it would hold several pipes. I figure about 40-45.
I think the 1 3/4" hieght would fit most all of my current pipes.

Pipe storage question
Since I have been collecting a few pipes lately I have run into a pipe storage issue. Out in the open on a rack really is not an option for me here. I am considering making a pipe chest similar the Oak Gerstner machinist chest except proportiond a little differently to fit pipes. Are there any issue...

Bob, You eventually may end up with both but for general work a four jaw self centering would be ideal. Not only can you center round stock like you can with a three jaw but with the four jaws you can easily center square stock as well (as long as it is square and not rectangular). And if its scroll...

technique question
Well guys things are getting better. I have slowed down and my toungue is not getting tore up as much. I am finding the taste of tobaccos and finding things I like and dont' care for. At this point I have a new question. About half way through each pipe full of tobacco I hit a wall. I get the pipe s...

Ben, Frank's Idea of using sheet stock that is already the thickness you want will work. Be careful using carbon fiber and micartas. They should work fine but make sure you wear a good quality face mask when gridning them. Carbon fiber dust will grind up your lung tissue a lot like asbestos will. Th...

Ben, A trick I use on smallish parts on fly rods is to either glue or use double sided tape and stick them on the end of a dowel. The parts your talking about are going to be too small for the double sided tape but the right glue should work. (Assuming you are using a wood lathe) You cuck up a "...

I had a revelation this week. Out of all my pipes I have a stanwell that I like a lot. I can taste the tobacco with this one and I do a better job keeping this one lit. The shape of this tobacco chamber is obviously different than most of my pipes. I took an old Alpha pipe that I have and this morni...

Midnight smoke and blue note
I have found that I really like Tobacco Galeria's Blue Note and Midnight Smoke. I probably like the Midnight smoke the best. Now that I know I like this I would just as soon buy it in bulk rather than continue to pay $4+ for a 1.5oz pouch. Do any of you know of a good mild black cavandish that is ve...

Ya its the freight that makes some of these scarry. I could probably scrape up enough to win the lathe but add freighting that kind of weight to this side of the mississippi and I'd be eating raman noodles for a long long time. I watch ebay often trying to spot good deals close to home. Right now I ...

Well if I can bum a buck to buy a lottery ticket I would love to get this lathe. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=016&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=260114104674&rd=1&rd=1[url] I love these old machines. This is about as sexy as a lathe can get her...
