thanks for the file tip... i had a time trying to file with just a regular file... i will definately be getting some chainsaw files... and wrapping it in sand paper, never thought of that... look forward to cleaning up the stem... thanks for the tips

my first two pipes... brand new at this

this is the first one I did... freehand out of plataeu, came predrilled as a kit and i filed the stem down to get the swirl look... keep in mind when i took these pictures i had already smoked this pipe several times before i took the pictures http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm319/clifton7882/pip...

once you stain your pipe how long before you can lightly sand... then once you are content with the stain how long before you can buff with carnauba wax

i love the top pipe... of all pipes i like freehands the best, especially those with really neat characteristics that are rare... neat pipe, will be saving the picture to add to my to do list for my own smoking collection... for the top is it just sanded and waxed, i can't tell if there is any stain...

i think the pipe looks great... if the red in the stem were a little lighter I think it would look really good, but i do like the smoky swirl look the red in the stem gives... what did you use to make that type of stem... still new at all of this... great pipe

with briar pipes i have heard different opinions on how often you can smoke it... every thing from just let it cool after each use to wait three days... looking for words of wisdom
