Aaron, I highly recomend the Talon chuck made by Oneway of Canada. It is a pricy piece of equipment (about $210 w/ adapter), but well worth it. You can check out the Oneway line of chucks @ http://www.oneway.on.ca/chucks/index.htm BTW Grizzly makes a cheap knock-off of the Oneway chuck, it costs abo...

I second Todd's opinion of Paul Argendorf. I had a stamp made for $75 (incl. shipping) and had it in a week. Paul's work is incredible and he is very friendly to deal with. I couldn't give a higher recommendation.

Best of luck,

Random, If your only issue is the pain in removing the PSA disks, why not switch your disk over to a hook and loop type fastener. I believe you can find retrofit kits for most size disks to convert from PSA to Velcro or hook & loop. This would allow you to switch to a different grit in an instan...

Rad, I purchased my talon chuck directly from Oneway. They were the cheapest I could find and their price included the adapter. Also, since my order was over 200 they shipped for free. I ordered my chuck on a Friday and had it the next Thursday. They are very fast and friendly and I highly recommend...

Yep, that's it. Are they still in business?
They sure are. Although a new MarkV (their base model) is pretty pricey. I lucked into mine and purchased it from my uncle for not much more than the cost of a decent table saw. You can check them out at www.shopsmith.com.

Random, Sounds like you talking about the Shopsmith. Combo table saw/lathe/drill press/lathe & disc sander (standard configuration, there are an infinite number of add-ons you can get). I have one and I use it for the bulk of my work, but your right, it sometimes is a pain to change configuratio...

Definitely go with a self centering (or scroll) chuck. Independent jawed chucks are a pain in the butt to center. Apparently Delta's Midi-Lathe takes a 1" - 8 RH thread which is a common size. You should not have any problems finding an adapter for whatever chuck you decide to go with. Best of ...

Actually the Oneway chuck (standard scroll chuck, uses 2 leavers to tighten) is 1 lb. (4.5 lbs vs. 3.5 lbs.) heavier than the Talon (same as Oneway chuck but is lighter and uses a key for tightening) I don't think either of these would create more wear on the bearings of smaller lathes. As a matter ...

I highly recomend the Talon chuck made by Oneway of Canada. It is a pricy piece of equipment (about $210 w/ adapter), but well worth it. As far as the attachment goes, that will be brand specific to your lathe, but there are a number of adapters for the Oneway chucks that will attach directly to you...

Thanks for the feedback. I agree with you nick about the transitition between the shank and the bowl. I'm going to spend more time on that area on my future pipes. Thanks again for the comments and if anybody has any criticisms I'd love to hear them.

Thanks,
Josh

Peter Stokkebye Tobacco

Has anyone ever heard of "British Isle" from Peter Stokkebye? A friend gave me a block of it that he pressed and vaccuum sealed in 1998. I don't have any clue what is in it and can't find any info on the web. It has a slightly raisin-ish aroma that I usually associate with perique, other t...
