Nice looking pipe, great gift.
I hate when that happens.

Steve, those are awesome. I like the first one, the angularity and the partial blast, with that staining effect. Very unique looking, but I bet it still feels good in the hand, with the slightly rounded front. The last one is my favorite out the group - the shape, the extension, and the staining is ...

Hey Pat, It's a great hobby. I've never had a hobby that I actually stuck with and got into so much. Very rewarding hobby it is. I have not yet started selling pipes, but I plan to eventually. I was fortunate to have had a pretty decent garage shop built up over the years, but as others have shown, ...

Ugh, I need to brush up my photo skills. A nice camera alone, beautiful photos does not make. When you shoot your pipes, do you use a light box, or reflector umbrella with big lights, etc, or is there a simpler way? Natural lighting? White/grey background best? Then touch up on the 'puter? Thank you...

That looks real nice. I can't see the off-center drilling, and the slight bulge on the stem brings the eye to the band, which looks very nice. Hand making stems, imho is the most time consuming task. Just when I think I'm done, I see something else that it needs done. But once the blems are out and ...

I've been working on this one a while. It came out totally different from what I set out to do (as have all my pipes so far :p), but I kinda like it. Sorry about my lousy pics. http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/745/p1010468qo3.jpg http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/1171/p1010471ji5.jpg http://img67.ima...

I take a piece of paper, 400, 320, whatever, spray adhesive on back of sandpaper and on one side of a paper plate, then cut in a circle. This I simply mount onto the mandrel, flappin in the wind. It gives fantastic control and precision. I suppose you could glue paper on the rim of the back side too.

George, although your setup is much more robust than mine, I do like the paper plate backing, for the finer grits, 320, 400. My setup looks similar to Tokutomi-san's: http://www.smokingpipes.com/pipes/new/tokutomi/toku_01.jpg Notice how it is possible to flex the wheel, and focus on a particular spo...
