Thanks
Thanks guys, for your help with this problem. I think the problem has been solved and I shall give it a try once I can get outside to my bench. I spoke to Tyler last night and he spotted a few things I can correct. In my original post I forgot to mention that this was done from a kit, so the info on...

downward slant
When working on this part, I leave the stem inserted and sand until I have a smooth transition. There is always a down slant. What am I doing wrong ?

new pipe
just finished my second pipe today. I used a dremel to rusticate. A fellow crafter told me that I could use veg. oil for the stain. I like the look it gives but lacks a shine. what can be done to polish it up a bit ?

newbie question.. saws
I've been using a coping saw for all of my major cuts. Now I find a good deal on a scroll saw. Woud it be strong enough to do my cutting ?

Stain... alcohol or water base ?
I just finished shaping and sanding my first pipe. Now for the stain, I've seen here that alcohol base is recommended. Because I want to finish this one as soon as possible, I went to home depot and found water based stain. Is there a differance with this type of stain or can I use it as well ?
