If Sas comes, I'm staying home.
Hope this helps.

Re: Ebony finish
Yes. I wouldn't do it again, but black on black on black with a sharpie base and ultra gentle buffing works.
It looks good, but I wouldn't ever do another one.

Seriously amazing. If I owned a pipe like that, I'd use it. And I've never used a pipe like that. Seriously awesome.

Re: Ready for Spoon Bits?
Having become accustomed to using hammer, sharks teeth and petrified toenails, the wait is no big deal. I've been able to be quite adept with these tools. See ya in Chicago! Whose toenails are you petrifying, Bruce? Todd's are far too dainty, I imagine, to hold up to the process, and yours, being s...

Re: Selecting a lathe- help
It took forever. Almost 7 months. The chuck is a weird German mount that bolts on. I had a custom chuck already, and just had it retrofitted to work. I have a Ken Lamb chuck that in turn is held by either a three or 4 jaw chuck. Do the chucks that come with the lathe run pretty true or do you never...

I'm happy with my PM 1127. The chuck is kinda funky, but once used to it, it's no big deal.

Re: New Stamps
Those stamps work perfectly for numbering. I believe the 1/16 is the way to go...but it's been a long time since i ordered mine, so I can't remember which size they are.

Re: Stamp size?
Mine is about 14mm wide (oval shaped) and I'd LOVE for it to be about half that big. It's extremely challenging to get a nice clean impression when it's so wide. I agree with Wayne...the smaller the better.

My birthday was New Years Eve (34). Since I'm a bit more than half your brother-in-law's age, I believe the math means I should be expecting 1 typical pipe and a partial pedestral, yes?
I'll take one of your sisters on a date if necessary.

Your coolness exceeds mine in so many ways it's hard to grasp. That lobster hood ornament is awesome.
Could you ship that van over here for the Chicago show and then do a North American road tour? Maybe we could get a reality TV contract for you or something!

Re: Band saw tires
I checked the balance and alignment on the wheel, and everything looked good. I picked up some new tires at Rockler, and after installing them (pain in the ass), everything looks great. Thanks for the advice (especially you, Ernie).

Band saw tires
Forgive to dumb noob question. My bandsaw's lower wheel tire keeps slipping out of its groove. I'm guessing it just needs to be replaced, but are there other potential causes for this annoyance?
Thanks guys!

Re: Sandpaper - Time Applyed
brurobas, here's a suggestion for you with hand sanding: Try putting a light coat of light brown stain on the pipe in between each sanding stage. You will know you are "done" with that grit when you can't see any more scratches from the last grit. You will basically sand the stain off over...

I have 1.125". I paid $37/inch for it so feel free to buy as much as you'd like. Well, I can get it for about $10/foot from McMaster, but I know you send a free Markle pipe with each inch, so.... I'll take 15 inches. How long until those are done? I am uncomfortable with all this talk about pa...
