Re: New Facebook presence and other fun announcements
Welcome back, Scott! I came to the same conclusion regarding FB a few years ago. It and other social media platforms can be pretty toxic environments and were especially bad for my own mental health. I've found that in person human interactions are more valuable and healthy than I ever gave credit. ...

Re: Spectacularly horrible design AND materials --- true WTF
Pretty crappy design. As much as I hate the Peterson System pipe design, I wonder if it might be a better solution for this pipe than the current design. You could drill a well then ramp the airway make the briar cap a part of the stem itself and put a mortise and tenon into the stummel. Hell, if yo...

I really like the bowl shape and cant. I agree with all the things Doc pointed out and nothing more to add. This is overall a pretty cool pipe with a few minor issues. Nice job and keep striving for perfection.

Re: Pricing repair work
In regards to pricing when someone contacts me to do a repair, I always quote something ludicrous because I don't want to do repairs for all the reasons mentioned above and I have a hard time saying no to friends and acquaintances (I won't do repairs for complete strangers.) I get really disappointe...
Re: Author
Dunhill's buttons are horribly bulky; especially the newer pipes. Very uncomfortable unless you like the feel of a pacifier in your mouth when you smoke a pipe.
Re: Wet briar
Nice synopsis, Todd. I'll add that I typically judge unscientifically by the weight feel of the block in hand. There is some variation in density from block to block more so from one briar mill to the next. These days, you're not likely to get dry blocks from any mill. I let my blocks sit for at lea...

I like the rustication. It's deep yet maintains the shape of the pipe. Nicely done.

Re: Pipe #16. Classic Billiard.
Put it this way - if you took a slice out of the bowl, a pancake, horizontally, it would be round, yeah? And it should be round everywhere, all down the bowl - if the bowl "blobs out" toward the stem much at all, it's ugly/amateur. You need SOME relaxation there in that transition, it's n...

Re: Pipe #16. Classic Billiard.
This is a nice pipe. Definitely inching closer to perfection. I agree with Sas. A bit more crispness in the cheeks and the transition from shank to bowl in general for a more professional looking billiard but it really impressive progress.

Re: Billiard profile reference photos
Those are recent production "English" output. (gag, gak, sputter, choke) The ones I posted were made in the 1950's, when pipes were still pipes and PROPER LINE was still paid attention to. (Though how they could see it after driving on the wrong side of the road all day is a mystery). As ...

Re: Billiard profile reference photos
Dear Wayne, go home, you're drunk. Danish billiards almost always have a low center of gravity and straighter walls, in fact I absolutely hate them, they represent a bunch of things I find absolutely critical in billiard shaping, a lightness, and upward lilt, a masculine aggression, by having them ...

Re: Billiard profile reference photos
I would say both are nice examples of a Danish style billiard. English style billiards tend to be less rounded with subtly less taper to the rim whereas Danish billiards tend to look a touch more egg-shaped. The first one is a Barling, and the second is a Dunhill. Well what the hell do Du...

Re: Billiard #15
You pointed out the most obvious issue with the shank being too short for the bowl height. I would also say the shank diameter is too thin and the forward cant a bit too much as well. The angle of the rim is a bit off also. Either that or the heel tucks in too much giving the pipe a cutty-like feel.
