Re: Ups and downs
...... Welcome to the club Micah! I too am a member of the moron club, but interestingly enough, there was no intimation of cannibalism. Instead I think it was a reference to "kissing off". Perhaps you're a higher level than I? "kiss off" "piss off" "ship off"...

I do see some Walle influence in this one, but I would not consider it to be copying him. It's your own work. No doubt, and a most excellent pipe.

Re: Bamboo Pipe, it's been a while!
It has been a while, and I was wondering. :D Another great pipe work. Just Super (I'm sure Todd Johnson will love it, too). :) I have a, probably, dumb idea. What would happen if you could channel your creative talent and skills into making a pipe which could be unquestionably identified as a Tobacc...

If you want proof, Take a look at this Bo Nordh in the article by Neill Roan: http://www.apassionforpipes.com/neills-blog/2010/11/21/a-rare-early-bo-nordh-pipe-surfaces.html This pipe should give hope to all aspiring pipe makers. Rad Not the greatest Bo I've seen, but in his defense, I have t...

Bruce, I honestly did not comprehend your infinity point, and I'm not ignorant of art. I've studied art, been a painter, and even studied drawing on a technical level. I studied Three-Dimensional Descriptive Geometry at Ga Tech and I made good grades. I also have designed buildings and done 3-D rend...

Re: Last months efforts
My lines are not straight, they are computer generated French curves, and they go almost to the button of the stem. I'm not making this stuff up to hurt David's feelings, I'm trying to show him how to make prettier pipes. I can appreciate that you don't understand most of this stuff Mike because yo...

And, Bruce, with all due respect, I think your fluid lines-infinity point is delusional. :) I understand where you're coming from, Mike. Especially when talking about a "Box with Rocks" or "Tilted Snot". You're a silly man! Ogay, I'm gonna ignore the insluts, and try to s...

Re: And last weeks...........
I agree with Sasquatch on this one, and stress, the bits seem outrageously high on all of them. 1. Fine 2. I think the ring is a little too large in diameter, but otherwise I really like it. 3. (above) I don't much like it. 4. I like the pipe generally, and I especially like the extension-shank deta...

Re: Last months efforts
But that's merely an argument of form versus function - I agree with you David and tend to make my horns an S-bend rather than a continuous curve. But that can still be done with fluidity of line. The lines on your horn's stem do not point at the lines of the shank. They are close, close enough tha...

Re: Last months efforts
A very good month, I'd say. My honest, quick take.... 1. I like it, nice, very solid looking pipe. The long extension works good on this one. 2. GREAT HORN , Euro 2000+ kind of great. (my price would be Euro 10000+) 3. Cool little pipe, but not my favorite. 4. I don't especially like it. The shank c...

Re: Question about carnauba wax
I have used shellac in this way. 1. Platina dewaxed shellac flakes. 2. thin mix ratio: 1/2 lb. shellac per gallon of denatured alcohol (about 60 grams/liter). 3. apply the shellac after the stain work is done, just before buffing with tripoli. Immediately after applying the shellac, wipe it off with...

Re: Acrylic vs Ebonite
Acrylic is more difficult to drill. Even drilling at low rpm's and very short, one second passes, it melts as you drill it, then the gummy chips glue themselves to the side of the hole, but it can be done. Also, acrylic tenons tend to be squeeky when you insert or remove the stem. The material also ...

Re: Can you become a great pipemaker and never buy a lathe
I and a lot of pipemakers have a metal lathes and/or wood lathes and use them a lot, but I think the answer to your question is a definite YES , depending on your talent, skill, etc. I don't think Abi Natur uses a lathe, and his work is phenominally good...great, I think. But I, also, definitely agr...

The Anti-Tobacco Movement
My impression about "The Anti-Tobacco Movement" is similar to my take on a lot of things engineered by this corporate-political government-business establishment. 1. Create an issue. 2. Sell it to the public. 3. Use it as an excuse to tax and profit on the public. To me it is not a health ...

Sounds a lot like Emperor Norton, though his particular beef was with rice. If you see what I'm talking about, there is no similarity to Norton, at least what I read about him...not a meglomania concept, but I don't really want to get too deep into this. It's is a mind-warping kind-of concept, and ...

Re: What do hand crafted pipes go for these days?
My pricing scheme is this.... I price them whatever I fell like pricing them, and I'm not in a hurry to sell them. I don't consider myself to be a pipemaker, craftsman, or a business, as such, but more of an artist, and the ideas related to the pipes are more important than the physical pipes. I con...
