Re: #3, Rusticated Pot
you ever see my shop jeans, the knees are absolutely torn up from the dremel bit hitting my pants. nice pot! the quest rages on!!! When using the burrs in the Dremel or Wecheer I wear a leather welders apron and a leather glove on my work object holding hand. The leather gets cut before me or my cl...

Re: Horn "Islero"
A while back I did a Google Earth of the area that I remembered the most. A lot of changes, we lived on the outside of town, now that area is inside of the town. Moron Air Base looks to be about the same as I remember, San Pablo the local part of the base near the housing area is completely differen...

Collecting all of the dust is like herding cats, you can try but there will always be some that gets away.

Re: Horn "Islero"
Of all of the places the military has sent me, Spain was the greatest place to live. The country side around Sevilla was almost like being back home in Texas. Instead of miles of olive trees grape vineyards, we have cotton fields and pasture land. But we are catching up on the vineyards in some part...

Re: Horn "Islero"
We lived in Sevilla, Spain in the early 1960's, one of the locals became sort of our "tour" guide for the 3 years we lived in Spain. One of the places he took us was the the bull ring that Manolete met his fate.

Re: attention European pipemakers
I still have no clue, but on the second link, that guy has 6 videos about pipemaking. He has been around the block a few times, his methods are as automated as I have seen and has a heck of a set up on his machines. I don't know the correct terminology but his method of drilling the blank is down to...

Re: attention European pipemakers
It looks like the headstock of a wood lathe. In the real short video, the second one, on the right of his dust shield he has a wooden sander attachment that screws on to the threads. It was drilled and tapped to fit the threads on the headstock or whatever it is. Looks like he uses it as a sander, t...

Re: Rod Stock Stem Creation --- a repairman's method
Some various rambles... I love the specialized acrylic drilling bits. They make a huge difference. Also, it helps to use food-safe cutting oil during the drilling. More than anything, though, go slow and "tap" - Drill a bit, back out, repeat. I use Pam cooking spray when drilling acrylic....

Re: Foredom questions/recommendations?
I have the Wecheer brand, and have used the Foredom, I cannot tell the difference between how they work. I haven't had any problems with the Wecheer that I had for a year, and when I saw them on sale I bought a second one with the 1/4" collet so I did not have switch handpieces when changing sh...

Re: Which of these lathes...
I am primarily a woodturner, if I were you I would contact a local woodturner that knows the lathes available to you and what kind of accessories are available. I know the Jet lathe will be a good value, but I have no clue as to what other lathes are available or their quality in the UK. To drill an...

Re: Zebrawood Mortise?
I have found that woods other than Briar can be a lot more prone to cracking when fitting or inserting a tenon. I recommend reinforcing the Zebra Wood either inside or outside. In the past I have used a brass pen making tube in the tenon and then lined it with Briar to drill the mortise. Todd Has a...

Re: Tenon Material - Wood?
I am no pipemaker, so take this for what I think it's worth, 2 cents. Delrin is an extremely hard rubber so it gives a little. On the other hand wood moves, as humidity changes so does the wood, so the tenon hole size will change. So I think that is the reason Delrin is used as the tenon.

Where are you at on the Gulf Coast? Most larger towns have an industrial supply house that carries Delrin. Some real large machine shops will also have it.

Re: Cutting oval chamber for vestpocket pipe
I have no clue on how it is done on pipes, but in a turkey box call the long oval is done with Forstner bits and the walls are cleaned up with chisels. It should work the same on an oval in a pipe bowl. Drill 2 overlapping holes, and chisel out the side wall. As to the bottom of the bowl, I would us...

There are great deals on buffing wheels and compounds on the Caswell Plating website. Also recommendations for the types of buffing wheels they offer. I am not affiliated with them, just a satisfied customer.
