Re: PITH 2017!!!!!!!

How's the move coming, smurf? Well the house is sold and tomorrow is my last day up here in MI. Heading down to Louisville next week to house hunt, then taking a month of much needed time off before I report in down there in July. I haven't had any shop time in almost 2 months, so I'm itching to cu...

Re: Is this pipe worth $470?

Shit like this angers me because I consider my prices to be fair, and as it stands, my work at half that price is a tad bit better than that, consistently, and I'm always trying to improve. But as it's been mentioned already, the consumer isn't always as educated as they should be thanks to all the ...

Re: beveling the bowl on a jam chuck, an I nuts??

Yeah, if you can get your hands on pin gauges big enough, that is ideal, but not everyone has them. I did recently use one to redefine the ring on a rhodesian after blasting away a bit too much while at briar lab, because Nate has every size pin gauge you could possibly want. Worked like a charm. I ...

Re: Billiard #6

Like you said, the drilling's not perfect, but it should smoke fine. It's not that bad. Just keep it for yourself. You could trim down the front of the rim some to give the illusion that it's canted forward more than it is, then shave a bit off just above the chin. Then shave a tiny bit more off the...

Re: My first pipe: Eskimo shape

Not bad at all for a first pipe. It's apparent that you did your research and applied some good concepts. I think, from the top looking down, the taper from the bowl to the button could be more gradual and less curvy. That would be the main thing that I see. You mentioned something about buffing wit...

Re: How to focus...Advice

Make a pipe. Look at the mistakes. Make another. Etc. ^This would be my recommendation. Don't forget to have fun while you're working. You will make bad pipes. Maybe lots of them, maybe not. The biggest hurdle newbies need to overcome is the fear to fail. This is the place you WANT to make your mis...

I also use the gorilla 5 minute stuff in the syringe style dispenser. There are probably stronger ones out there, but I know mine works as I had some delrin shatter before the epoxy gave during a lathe mishap awhile back.

Re: PITH 2017!!!!!!!

To repeat, an ellipse (a mathematically define geometric shape) is an oval, but an oval may or may not be an ellipse. I think most of us think of an oval as a symmetric flattened circle a la a Canadian or lumberman. Correct me if I am mistaken, Smurf. DocAitch I am inclined to agree with this, alth...

Re: PITH 2017!!!!!!!

The votes are in! This year's PITH pipe will be an oval shank. Shape or feature wise, this is the only requirement. Let's talk deadline. How does end of July work for everyone?
