Re: Please don't laugh

Also, the stem started to pinch at the draw hole when I bent it. I may need to make a new stem.
Not at all... Heat it back up until it straightens out. Slide 1 or 2 pipe cleaners into the stem and re-bend it.

Re: Spoon Bits

I think the sizes Tyler mentioned covers it all. We can use the conical for small bowls, just dont go as deep.

Re: bending stems

In a high production shop, it might make sense. You can pop stems into it and come back later to bend them after working on other tasks. But for onsie-twosies, an alcohol lamp or heat gun will get it done a lot quicker and for a LOT less money.

Re: Second Post-Billiard

The length of the stem look okay to me. The length of the shank to bowl height is a little short, but the longer stem makes it seem okay. The couple things that stood out to me that could be better was 1) the stem/shank joint (3rd & 4th pics). 2) the bottom of the bowl is lower than the bottom o...

Re: 2 Stem Questions.

Seems to me, it can be done a lot easier if you are using rod stock - Disclaimer: This is coming from a rookie pipe maker with limited tooling. You learn to use what you have to do the job you need. I have a wood lathe only, but I did save up and buy a couple of chucks. Use a chuck that will accept ...

Re: cutting stainless steel tubing

The nice thing about using a tubing cutter is that it takes the edge off the OD so it feeds without catching on a corner. Then just kiss the ID with a countersink tool to keep a consistent airflow.

In the "About Us" section, there is a statement that you are in the US, however, there is nothing to indicate where you are, or how to contact you besides the form on the contact us page.

Re: Forstner bit facing wavy?

Silly question... do you face the shank with the forstner before you drill the mortise - or after you drill the mortise? It makes a difference!

Re: 3rd pipe, 1st post...

I would add that the shank is a tad short, too. (maybe 1/8") Nicely done billiard.

Goes to show what Tyler was saying in his open letter, the tools don't make the pipe, they just help to make the pipe faster.

Re: Chuck For Stem

I just use it to get a tenon closer to finished size (very quickly) - and larger ones to get the OD of the stem cut down closer to the final size, too.

Re: Metal Lathes-How Not to be a Dumb Ass!!!

That just goes to show that a new warning label must be placed on new lathes. You know, like don't use a lawnmower as a hedge trimmer.

Someone should send this link to Ralph Nader, he needs to champion a new cause.

Re: Billiard #2

Strikes me as on the long side. Could have made the shank a bit shorter and made the saddle half as long. Either way, nice billiard!
