piggy back orders

Hello staffwalker (Bob), I asked for a quote last week and haven't heard anything back. If you do decide to order, would you be willing to combine orders to save on shipping and perhaps on volume? The size of my order would depend on whether they have any Cumberland rod ready. Feel free to email me.

Extra SEM rods for sale?

Hello rough and gentlemen, Did anyone end up with extra rod that they would be willing to part with? I would pay for it, of course. I just emailed SEM for a price list and to find out what, if any, cumberland is available. I gave no indication of address and I don't have a website, so hopefully my i...

Rather than sanding down your delrin inserts, you can also lightly sand the ID of the drilled through extension... that would certainly be best for the removeable stem end, since the delrin stem insert will be seen. You can sand the drilled through extension with a smaller drill bit with sandpaper w...

Why not?

Sure, will do, I'll check my wood pile and see if I have another piece of briar exactly like it!

Sit, good boy.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I set out to make it sit, so before all else, I figured the fulcrum and shaved the butt. I stuck with it and worked around it even though the shape out grew it. Next time I'll let the wood tell me if it likes to sit.

Chubby Checker

Here's a fat and twisted sitter pipe. Right now it's just tripoli buffed, no stain or wax. I'm putting finishing touches on hold until I decide it's fate. I like the birdseye panels and the shape flows with the grain between... but it's clunky. There are a couple pin prick flaws and I have enough ma...

Thanks, Rad. This forum is great. The learning curve bends quickly when you can get answers before you mess something up!

stem diameter

Oh yeah, about Rad's suggestion, the football "points" are 1 inch apart and I don't have any pre-fabs rounds that fat and my ebonite rod stock is only 5/8" I think.

But I think for flexibility I'll buy some 24mm stuff from SEM, considering all the praise.

Twisty bendy

Thanks Rad, it makes sense... I just worried about heating the stem still attached to the shank, thinking it might affect the wood. :? Apparently, I needn't fret. Another thingy, do you fully sand and polish the stem before twisty bendy or after? I've overheated a stem and the finish degraded...

Bend and twist stem?

I just carved a pipe with a nice spiralling half twist up the shank and that I want to follow through with the stem. The shank has like a football profile. I shaped down a pre-formed oval saddle stem for a nice match, but the points of the "football" are at like 2 and 8 o'clock, so the but...

Nice bamboo, great seller!

Firstly, thanks Mindong! I ordered some bamboo from Mindong with some trepidation. China, after all, isn't known as a pipe smoking culture (non-opium style, that is), and quality of materials is often determined by market demand and subsequent availablility, personal working/smoking experience, and ...

lamb chuck

Do you still have the Lamb chuck for sale? I'm interested for sure, but $400 is a bit steep for me. I've been experimenting with modifying (lambifying) my independent 4- jaw chuck, but I need a machine shop and welder to do it right... super glue just isn't super enough.

Contrast

Great contrast stain, especially on the birdseye... how'd you accomplish it? I also like the twist from bowl bottom to shank... nice flow.

Is it too late??!!!

Hello Brad, I finally get to post... (thanks to Kurt!). When I first stumbled upon this forum and read this topic, I was lamenting that I didn't find it earlier. Then I read that the machining was going to be delayed and I was elated!! Maybe, I prayed, the window was still open. Is it too late to ad...
