Re: Machined pipes.New Factory in Nashville.
I was considering buying one for my most recent purchase. You can't get many of those shapes from any other factory pipe. And if you're looking to try one out, P&C is giving 3 tins of tobacco to every purchaser: a tin of Escudo, a tin of Hearth & Home Marquee Blackhouse, and a tin of 4th Gen...

But then you can't admire their beauty! This is why I like acrylic. I also don't have space for a closed cabinet.

Storign pipes hanging by stem
Will this sort of stand hurt the stems in the long run? I figure you guys would know if anyone, and I might try making an ugly one to go in my locker at school.

How exactly did you rusticate this? It looks to me a lot like Savinelli's capri root briar rustication.

Re: 'Nuther Pipe
The bowl should not be straight up and down. If it is, it gives the impression that it's tilted backward (it's an optical illusion), so it should be tilted forward at least a degree or two.

Bowl Symmetry on a Dublin
http://i1002.photobucket.com/albums/af141/tennesseean_87/Pipes/100_3413.jpg Here is a CanaDublin I'm trying to finish the shaping on. The bowl has a pretty good forward cant to it. I don't think the back (side facing smoker) of the bowl is tapered as much as the front and sides, and my question is,...

Re: Music and Pipemaking
I listen to Irish drinking songs... is this what's wrong with my pipes? It's all for me grogg, me jolly, jolly grog, all for me beer and tobacco! I spent all me tin with the lassies drinkin' gin And across the western ocean I must wander. I like a lot of celtic stuff, and folky bluegrass stuf...

Re: How to deal with this.
I have a kit pipe a friend made that seems to have lighter blotchy spots on it. I think he got the kit from PIMO. I'm not sure this helps, but I hope it does.

Re: R.Woźniak - Biliard variation.
So is the bowl/chamber angled back, or is the rim just crooked? I'd prefer the traditional forward cant of bowl and rim.
In the last pic it looks like there is a change in angle on the top line of the shank about a 3rd of the way from the bowl to the stem.

Re: rotating the stem
I think he meant 'low quality' as a modifier, not a universal predication. With this stem I wonder if the un-evenness of the molding caused the tenon to be turned off-center by the kit supplier. I know it's oversized enough at the shank junction to be trued up, but I'm not sure if there is enough ro...

Re: rotating the stem
No budget, time, space, or tooling for that . I guess this is what I have to work with for now. Maybe after I finish school, have a job, and pay off debt. In a few years, I'd love to try it!

Re: rotating the stem
The tenon is turned already, but doesn't seem centered. The molding is pretty messed up, too, so that complicates things (the two halves of the mold don't line up. I'm mostly worried about the button not being centered once I get the rest of it centered on the crooked tenon. Maybe I need pics of thi...

Re: rotating the stem
I have a question about this for a couple of kits that I want to do. The problem is, the tenon is off-center on the pre-molded stem, by a decent bit. The internals may be off-center, too, so that the tenon is off from the outside and inside of the stem. The good news is that the stem is oversized, s...
