I recently found The videos George mage on shaping stems and found them to be very, very good. the detailed explanation with prop's and pictures along with demonstrating his technique. Thanks again George, I hope this can take this wannabe to the next level. :D

I just viewed this video and it contained a wealth of information. I even took notes and ordered from SteW-Mac when it was over. I was headed down the garden path in several areas and this video has put me back on track.
Yes, thank you.

I've watched both those videos twice now. it makes me less afraid to tackle my own stems when I get to that point. the way George explained and demonstrated was very easy (for me) to understand.

I'm glad to see that video is still doing some good. :D (I made it because I'm a judge for the GKCPC carving contest each year and kept seeing the same problems over and over, so decided to take a swing at fixing one of them).

Anyway, there's a bit of backstory to the thing---why it's so damn long w/clunky edits & etc.---as well as some clarifying technical Q&A exchanges in the original thread if you're interested:

Perhaps George's original thread and the link to his videos should be considered for a sticky?

George, your middle initial wouldn't happen to be "O," would it?

My kid used to think so. Until he turned three, maybe. Then he just pointed and laughed (and hasn't stopped laughing yet). It was fun while it lasted, though.

Today even my cat ignores me, and I have to use FOUR pairs of glasses to get around and do stuff.

(and here I was getting ready for a "walking sticky" pile-on)

That drawing of a pipe sort of looks like a toilet.
