Lamps and stuff made from several components is a very different story than cutting tools. Chinese cutting tools are perfectly good for briar and ebonite, it's not like you're gonna wear out an hss cutting edge on wood, and even when you eventually do (after making ten kilos of shavings), you just need to learn to touch it up with a stone and you're good to again. Just say you like high quality USA made tools because high quality is always nice, don't say you need them for cutting briar cause that's just silly.
