acrylic ring making.....

Post by ND Pipes »

Guys... i like to use rings to decorate my pipes - on the shank or on the stem... the problem is, i don't like to cut them and sand to an exact thickness...
so, i figured, i might find some acrylic (plexiglass) sheets and to cut them from a sheet that is maybe 1.5mm up to 2mm thick... this way i would have a perfect thickness of the rings - equal and nice...
can someone suggest me where to find CAST acrylic sheets in different colours (especially black and white for a start)... the desired thickness is 1.5mm give or take...
thanks...

That place is awesome. If you don't have a lathe to slice off perfectly parallel discs of acrylic from a rod, using cast sheet acrylic is the way to go. Delvies is in the U.S., but there must be someplace in the EU that carries similar stuff.

Hi tnd,
I am not sute if the sheet is cast, but Tap Plastics have always been good to work with and have a high quality product. You would have to contact them about overseas shipping.

It's called translucent, but it's actually quite opaque. I have used the black, white, and ivory, and both are very opaque. I think they call it translucent because a little light will always pass through, but you certainly can't see anything through it if you held it up to your face.

Is a hole saw the best way to get rings from the sheet?

That would work - make sure you use water or something to keep it cool while cutting.
