Where are ya'll buying Ebonite/Cumberland?

Post by The Smoking Yeti »

Hey folks, I'm wondering where ya'll are buying your ebonite and cumberland rod stock from? I know I can get it from PME, but I'm wondering if there is a cheaper option/ a place with more variety- I saw Nate King using a cool blue and black cumberland on one of his pieces. Any leads'd be helpful for me!

Cheers!

I saw the same, and was wondering the same. Really not even a description of what is offered.

Seems like good product, though.

Found this:

Then I think you just email them. I've only ever bought from them at Chicago.

Do I sense a group buy coming on? If that happens, I wouldn't be able to organize it, but I'd be in on it for sure.

If you put Ina. Group buy, I recommend NYH. They don't stock, and will only run a size/color with a 1000euro order in the size/color.

SEM stocks, and will sell a la cart.

That's great to know! Well I'm gonna watch and see if a group buy pops up. If not, it'll be SEM for my next order.

you can also get NYH from here http://www.janzen-pfeifen.de/english/frameset.html they sell it by the rod.. I've bought from Janzen many times... my last batch of cumberland is from him.. anyway..

For Janzen you just fill out the order for and they email you the receipt.. I usually by via bank transfer but I think they will take a CC.. same goes for SEM..

to reduce the shipping I ask them to cut the 1meter rod in half... I cut them anyway as my storage location isn't all that big

I guess it'd help if I spoke German.

I ordered from Sem last month, it was easy. Shoot them a message requesting a pricelist and then just email your order and they will send an invoice. They take paypal or bank transfer.
Be prepared for a long shipping time. Just over 3 weeks and the package just made it to Texas. USPS will do the final delivery so I can see it taking several more days to show up at my door.

If you want to try out SEM before you buy, send them an email asking for a price list and let them know you are a pipe maker. They sent me a bunch of free samples, three or four of which were long enough to make stems out of. If they don't offer samples, you could probably ask and I bet they would send you some.

I prefer the NYH ebonite, but SEM isn't bad and they have wild and crazy colors.
