Nut file(s) for Bead Restoration

Post by riff raff »

Does anyone have a set of the Stew-Mac nut files?

I've recently completed a bead repair on a Rhodesian and I had to recut the bead line, through the repair. Details here:

Has anyone ever measured the typical bead line dimension?. I've found that "nut files" are available that luthiers use for guitar building/repairs.

Here are the choices from Stew-Mac:

I'm assuming the smallest, at 0.010" is probably the best choice?

For this application, I've just used the thin end of a super thin needle file. The nut files look like they would work, though. I don't know what width would be typical without my calipers.

That's a lot of effort for a very ugly pipe....

Those nut files however seem like the perfect tool for the job- good idea!

Like Julliette Lewis, I find the 9438 oddly hot....<g>

Using the knife blade was a little tricky. On a more valuable pipe, I'd want to be more precise.
(a pretty common ailment on estate Rhodesian/bulldogs)
