I tried mixing stain together in layers. First layer was a dark walnut followed by a cherry.

Did you sand in between adding the cherry stain?

No I did not sand between the 2 stains, will have to try that.

I like the shape some influence from Tokutomi, the staining will be so much better if you sand before each stain you get so much more depth and clear finish to the grain. Great work!

I like that shape of that one too. Looks like it would fit nice in your hand while smoking.

Very eloquent design. The only thing I see that may just be the angle is in the second picture. The stem and shank seem to be slightly out of line. I think it may be the picture angle though. Very nice work!

Hey Paul, send me some pic's since you sanded and re-stained the pipe. Glad the idea worked for you. Ronnie B. gave me the tip when I spent a few hours with him one afternoon. Now if Eltang would give up his method I'd have it made. LOL. But I know that ain't going to happen.
