Sand blasting media

I'm just getting started and trying my hand at sand blasting. For my expirmental phase, what would some of you experienced craftsmen recommend for blasting media? The granular carbon, soda or walnut shell? Also grain size?

Most of us use 170/325 glass bead. Feel free to experiment, though. The extra fine glass bead just gives a nice detailed blast. Go coarser and the material comes off quicker and you lose detail. I've tried plastic beads and it looks like a very light kind of rustication.

The extra fine glass bead is great for siphon systems. Pressure feed systems can benefit from larger size media. What kind of system are you using?

Mine is a typical pressurized cabinet system by Central. 125 psi. Operating pressure

So is it a siphon feed or pressure feed? I am guessing siphon with the 125 psi?

Siphon...I've never used it for pipe work. I bought it to blast parts on an old pick up restoration project. I'll have to dump the media and wipe it out well but it's still in great shape.

Go with the Extra find glass bead. You can vary the psi from about 70 to 120 depending on the piece of briar and effect you desire. It should work very well.

The Cyclone e100 is a good place to start. It's only slightly more expensive than the Harbor Freight model, but has a much more efficient nozzle and the cabinet doesn't leak as much.
