Stain Problem

Post by JMB »

ran into a problem working on my latest pipe. It has what I would call knot or burl in the bowl. The stain will not stay on. I have tried two colors and a comb color on it. Nothing stays. Some will stay but most comes off when I hit it with a buffer. Any ideas to combat this.

Rustication.

Either that or try roughing up the area in question with some sandpaper and apply the stain. maybe re-sand to 400, apply the stain, then do the final sanding and buffing.

Rustication is usually what I would do though - I've never seen on of those spots give an even stain coverage.
