wrapping the bowl

today i was wondering, has anybody wrapped their pipe in leather? also, why would they do that if they did? i feel like i've seen some or heard sombody talking about it but thought i'd ask the experts. just something on my mind today.

Because their briar is ugly, they don't want to rusticate and they don't have a sandblast cabinet. Never done it myself.
