Wierd marks in grain....please help

Post by Janosik319 »

Hi guys, I'm pretty new at this(pipe making and this forum), i started about a year ago(moving in the meantime) and i'm staining my 5th pipe tonight. After a couple coats i noticed strange wavy lines going against the grain that almost look like water marks to me. I'm using leather dye for this one but and i haven't seen anything like this before. I'm not sure if I started too soon after wet sanding tho i waited a 6-8hrs and water is coming through or i stained too thick or if this is just some wierd grain thing i haven't seen yet. I'm going to attempt to post a pic of this in dire hopes someone can tell me what it is and how to fix it if possible.....ok so i'm not sure how to post a picture either so if anyone can tell me that before i figure it out i'd appreciate it but i'll be working on that now.

as far as ring grain goes, you'll find it looks better in higher quality blocks. The specimen you have is pretty loose, in really good smooth pipes, the ring grain adds an extra dimension of coolness.

When you've been around as long as I have, you'll begin to understand how creepy heeheehees are. They are not humorous at all. They are creepy. They make people insane.

I agree it is kinda creepy in a Moe Lester sort of way. I've been on a Stephen King kick for a while now, and suddenly find "Teehee" much, MUCH creepier. As in "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy... Teehee!" Just avoid those, and I'll keep visiting the site.

Here's a picture of me at home in my pumpkin patch. I looked up "Moe Lester" and I don't think I look at all like him?!?!

BTW....You'll notice in the picture of me in the last post, I'm carring a knife in a leather case on my belt. I'm carring a leatherman in it, but "SURPRISE" when you lift up on it a hoster slides out of my pants with a pipe and tobacco pouch hidden in it...or whatever!.....sometimes I like to say "heehee!"
