Complete blast cabinet makeover

Post by pipeguy »

Hi all, I just finished a blast cabinet makeover with a harbour freight blast cabinet.
The only thing harbour freight is the metal cabinet everything else was disposed of
All new components and design changes were made by Mike Tacoma in Northport
Wa.he is a pneumatic engineer and has a blasting company there for over 30
Years. It is a loop system that operates off of (get ready)5 cups of media. Which
Makes changing media a 2 minute job. There is no more dip tube for siphoning
Up media which gets clogged up anyway Here's the great part.Out the door minus
Ones time I'm into this for under $500 and it operates like a commercial blaster costing
thousands Pay attention Scottie (NO MORE BLASTING IN THE DRIVEWAY)

Looks good, Bob! As it turns out I just redid my cabinet as well. I can proudly say that I don't sit on the driveway to blast anymore! :-)

that compressor is what makes you achieve commercial grade blasting ;-) All I have is a 380V 1HP single stage compressor with a 80L (liter, not gallon!) tank which is way underpowered so I haven't even tried buying a blasting cabinet yet...

Also: my shop pics are so clean because I took these pictures the day before I organized a BBQ/pipemaking-workshop for 15 people so I spent about 4 hours cleaning like a maniac. Looked so good I just HAD to take pictures for my (then just released) website :D
Usually (like right now) there's no free spots on the bench and the floor is covered in shavings, dust and random stuff.

Yes Chris basically the hopper doesn't hold any media to speak of just 5 cups.
The media falls out the bottom to the mixing valve the up to and out of the gun
And back out the bottom again in a loop I was told that I will never need to exceed
60psi. We will see soon.

What are you using for the media, glass beads alone or a mix?

Is the media itself under pressure then, like a pressure pot set up?

Not really Chris, pressure goes to the back
Of the gun media comes in the bottom of gun
( like a siphon system) but it recirculates
In a loop not picked up from the hopper
