I'm pretty sure my wife would kill me

So I've been keeping an eye on the local CL for a metal lathe. I admittedly don't fully know what I'm looking for beyond the typical minimum size/brand recommendations, but when you guys say to get more lathe than you think you'd ever need, this isn't what you mean, right?

Of course you need it.
If I lived within a few hundred miles I would need it.

You got three phase power in your garage?

That is a very capable lathe with several hundred dollars worth of extras. I would be all over it in a heartbeat.

Y'all are killing me. How does one even move something that big?

As long as the spindle looks good without runout, it should be fine. To move it, rent an engine hoist and work carefully.

The seller is also offering a single phase motor.

Enterprise will rent you a 24' truck with a Tommy gate on it. Safe, easy no worries about balance.

Welp, looks like it's a definite no-go
Really don't have room for it and current circumstances make it hard to justify buying it right now, especially considering I've literally never even been in the same room as a metal lathe at this point (and so perhaps some of that money would be better spent taking some intro machining courses at the local community college...).
Still though, the idea of building pipes on a cool old behemoth like that holds a certain romance - not sure how much he's on the forum these days, but you guys think this would be something David Huber would want to take a look at?
Anyway, sorry for getting everyone all excited. As always I appreciate the encouragement/enablement
