Dead-center & dead-bottom shank airway drilling every time; and zero-vertical-deviation slot cutter that does a perfect job every time... in seconds.

Gaze ye upon it ye mortals, and drool:

Did you make this one, Latlov?
It is ver similar in form and function to Oklahoma Red's st up, if I am interpreting it correctly.

Not me. I've not even seen it in the flesh. A friend of mine had it made and sent the pic, is all.

I suppose the slot cutter part rings a bell because there's really only one way to do it, design-wise. (You're thinking of Texas Red's)

Hmmm, looks suspiciously like QW's handiwork.

And so it is. The first chance I get it's coming home with me. We're talking Black Op type situation. The second stop on the Op will be George's Burr King.....still working out the logistics on that one since it's a beast.

I just might know a guy  He takes payment in Dunbar and/or Mclelland Navy Cavendish.

Latlover--what motor drives the bit? It looks like a standard speed sort of motor. I my limited experience I thought a high speed motor like a foredom/dremel was needed to keep from just smearing the material? Unless of course it has something like a side milling cutter?

I'm afraid I don't understand the question. I think you're making some false assumptions about the tools and materials involved.

Pretty much any motor rpm (within reason) will cut wood and rubber, provided the tools being spun are sufficiently sharp.

Is this for people who don't have a lathe, nor a dremel?

;)

This is for a tool junkie who literally has a tool for everything.

Thanks but I've got a guy in house who works for beer and pizza

You can build it to fit on top of your lathe line it up with your head stock
(Bada Bing Bada boom promote that man)

No, i don't think I'm making false assumptions. I guess i'm asking 2 questions--motor speed and tool bit type. I have a pretty full machine shop, and have found that whereas we get away with using a standard drill bit to make slots in hard rubber/acrylic and wood using a high speed drive like a dremel, at drill press speeds it doesn't do a good job. hence my query about the tool bit. That's why i bought a milling machine years ago for all the other work I do--couldn't hog out slots with a drill bit very well. :-D

Standard drill bits aren't mean't to cut sideways. What's actually happening when you spin one fast enough that it SEEMS to cut sideways in hardened rubber or acrylic, is thermal abrasion. Heat from friction + sideways pressure.

If you're limited to actual rubber CUTTING speeds, just use a bit that's designed for the purpose:

...Standard drill bits aren't mean't to cut sideways.... Right, that's why I asked thre question. I have all thr bit types shown in your pics--nice pics, thanks for the time to dig'em out---except the single bit in the middle. It looks sorta like a spiral drill/tap , which I have a few of--larger sizes, but i woudn't think one of those would be ideal. Or is it some type of what the English/Canadians call a slot drill?

We seem to be going in circles. One of those conversations that would never happen face-to-face or in a shop, but occasionally happen online.

Let's just leave it at, "match the tool to the rotational speed you intend to use" and all will be well when cutting slots.

Me? I use several versions of the bottom one, spun by a low-speed/high torque Foredom LX. Those tapered bits cut better the SLOWER you go (within reason).
