Sanding Wheel Modifications

Post by Frank »

There were a couple of things I disliked about the arbor adapter for the Sanding Wheel, so I made some modifications.

The 1/4" shaft was a bit wimpy, but more important, at times it placed my knuckles way  too close to the spinning lathe chuck jaws. Using 5/8" SS rod stock, I did a bunch of drilling and thread cutting which produced this:

I also chamfered the edge of the aluminium backing disc, as it tended to get in the way when working on well bents.

You need a goodly amount of accuracy to obtain/maintain concentricity of the assembled contraption. I wasn't so lucky, so I have to tweak the wheel itself.

Sincere thanks to Love for the original wheel idea, and also to Kurt for assorted hints and tips.

PS. The patchwork on the wheel is assorted velcro I managed to scrounge off THE BOSS.
Regards,
Frank.

Wow. That's a really sweet modification, Frank. I like it a LOT.
