Great deal on a Delta sander

Post by wdteipen »

I recently picked up a Delta SA180 1" belt/8" disc bench sander at Lowe's for $20. It normally goes for $129. It was on sale for $32 but they only had the display model which was missing some parts. I told them I'd take it as is for a discount. I knew I was going to break the thing down and make modifications anyway so the missing parts were no big deal to me. The motor is 1/3 hp 1750 rpm. It'll do until I can afford a VFD for my 3 phase. I rarely find good deals so I was pretty jazzed.

The disc sander on that comes in terribly handy for squaring up blocks before drilling. I'd be lost without mine.

The belt sander is excellent for rough shaping stems. It took a while to get comfy with it, but now that I am, it's like second nature to use it for this.

What changes do you plan to make to it?
