Micro File Handle Source

Post by wdteipen »

Does anyone have a good source for handles for micro/needle files? The one's I've purchased have been junk. I've tried making them myself but they don't hold up very well.

Interesting idea. Do you drill a hole then epoxy them in?

I use billiard balls for my stamp handles.

Just drill an undersize hole and press/hammer them in, you may find you want to shorten the shank of needle files a little, I just snap them off about halfway. Work great on tapered tangs too for bigger files.

I must say that it has never crossed my mind to put handles on my needle files.
But then, I do my buttons with finesse. :)

Yeah, same here but I'm tired of getting a big blister on my right pointer finger on stem day from my files without handles.

Wayne, Stanley tools make them and they are nice. Amazon has them right now.One handle can do it since they change out easily.

If you don't mind spending 5-6 bucks each, look up "Lutz File and Tool, Long Ferrule #1" handles.
I have some estate sale tools with these handles, size looks right for needle files and they are damn nice. I think these are about 40 years old, I imagine they will last just about forever. I don't think you could break one unless you tried, and that would probably take some work.

Come on! You're pipe makers! I've made mine out of briar scraps. They get a wonderful patina and last forever.

Wine corks also work if the tang isn't too long.
