85d is the threshold for an 8hr exposure, before expected irreversible damage. A good general rule of thumb is if you have difficulty hearing a person next to you you are close to it. My buddies at the dayjob and I have an app that measures d. Our local jimmy johns is generally over 85d and after just a lunch break in there you can feel your ears hurt.
