Post by J.Alexander »

Thinking about getting a small blasting cabinet and was needing input on what everyone's personal preference is on blasting media... oh and where to get best prices. Thanks ~Joe

I don't know where the best prices are since I get mine locally. Most people tend to use the finest glass bead media 170-325. Many people will add their own secret ingredient to the mix, but it's not necessary unless you're going for something different.

As for a blast cabinet, the cyclone e100 is highly recommended. You're going to need a huge compressor if you don't have one already. The compressor I have is about twice as expensive as any other tool in my shop. But it does a great job of sandblasting.

Very high grit glass bead. Grainger has it for a decent price if you have one near you.

Depending on where you live try a rock yard that sells blasting media. I get mine from a place here in KC that my husband buys moss rock boulders and flagstone from. They have quite the selection of glass bead and I get a 50 pound bag for $28. If you have to get it on the internet Grainger is probably your best bet since they have a little depot in just about every town everywhere and will ship it there for free.

oh...and mixing something in with the glass beads to achieve a certain look is going to depend on your setup. You will have to experiment to see what works for you.

I'm pretty sure he's referring to VermontSteve's planned Pig-B-Que (see separate thread), where he'll follow Sas around as he eats sacks of baby pigs like a Cajun does crayfish. No reason to let all that porcine bone go to waste, you see.
