How to sharpen a J. Alan Spoon bit??

Post by Jwhitehead3129 »

Good morning all, I have a J. Alan spoon bit that I have been using for a while now for freehand drilling. I have not sharpened it and it does need it at this point; however, I am not familiar with hoe to sharpen it. Any assistance that you all can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

You don't want to use a hoe to sharpen it. A hoe is best for garden use and not sharpening stuff.

Hope this helps.

Diamond HONE across the flat. Don't mess with the relief on the edge itself.

You only need a couple of swipes with a diamond hone on the flat portion that actually cuts. There is no need to go over the entire flat.

Try those stones before investing in a diamond tool. They may work just fine.

They did pretty well but its not a bad excuse to add another tool to what I have already. I have reconditioned several straight razors and may do more so it will be handy to have a good hone.
