DocAitch joining

Post by DocAitch »

Hello.
I am an old pipemaker who is returning to the fold.
I am 70 years old, retired from Emergency Medicine this past summer, and remain active with the Maryland Defense Force (State Guard)
I made freehand pipes in Baltimore in the late 1960s and 70s. I worked out of Jay's Smoke Shop and made pipes under the name of "Walt". I got out of the business in 1975 when I graduated medical school and got busy with residency.
I have now retired after 36 years in the ED and have started my return to pipe making.
Right now I am doing some reshaping, refurbishing and working on projects that have sat in a box in the basement for 40 years. I will post images of some of the stuff I am working on. Below are 3 pipes that I made in the 70s

I have my shop set up enough so that I could re cut the third pipe above. I find that my skills are pretty rusty, especially my french wheel fu but they are improving.

I have plans to re do the top one, which has beautiful flawless grain but which has a tobacco chamber which is too big for a good smoke.
I smoke the middle one regularly, but it is going to get recut as well.
I will post another project in the appropriate forum.
