CowboyTed

Post by CowboyTed »

Howdy, gang! I'm CowboyTed, a Wyoming native living in Colorado. I've made a few pipes, and restored or modified a bunch in the course of learning how pipes have been made by others. The bug has bitten, and I'm in the process of setting up a proper shop with all my tools for pipemaking in one room. I'll be studying lots more, and will show off some pipes in the gallery when I've reached the point where I need help finding the flaws.

That old Cowboy in my avatar isn't me, but it IS my great uncle Ted, the guy I was named for. He was much better looking than I am. I don't look much like a cowboy, though I did grow up on a ranch in Wyoming. I do still live in ranch country and own horses, though they are mostly my wife's thing. I own a cowboy hat, but can't remember the last time I wore it. Even when my family received an award for keeping a ranch operating for over a hundred years, I didn't feel a need to wear a hat to the ceremony. I guess I'm not exactly a cowboy's cowboy. It remains to be seen whether I will become a pipemaker's pipemaker.

Real name: Ted Preston
Age: 49
Location: Elizabeth, Colorado
Years a pipe smoker: 26 on and (mostly) off
How you got into pipe making: I was imagining things to do with a huge chunk of Russian Olive Burl I collected
Other interesting facts: I have a history as a lapidary and goldsmith, so stones and precious metals will surely find their way into my pipe designs.

Ted, did we meet at Chicago last year in that repairman's meet-up thing with Tim & Co?

Your story and approach sounds familiar...
UFOs must be real. There's no other explanation for cats.

Nope! Must be another lapidary/goldsmith/pipemaker. I'm planning to go to Chicago this year, but it will be my first time there.
