Some advice?

The chamber bit jumped and left this gouge on the rim. As I see it my options are to try to bevel the inside of the rim to hide it, or to shorten the bowl.

I included the side view to show the current bowl height if I were to shorten it. My dilemma is that I'm working with rudimentary tools and fear I'd not be able to Mars clean, consistent bevel, but I'm thinking the bowl would end up too short if I sand it down.

Any suggestions on making a smooth bevel would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

you can get a clean bevel with just your thumb and sandpaper, guys do that all the time. The problem is you probably aren't going to get all of the the gouge with just a bevel. Most likely you will have to bring the top of the bowl down a bit first.

Joe is right. There isn't enough material on the rim for a bevel to fix it.

I would just bevel or dome the rim. It's not ideal, but it's better than the gouge or topping the rim. Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about it; don't let it frustrate you. The first pipes you make are all about learning, and now you know a little more about drilling, etc.

I tried from the taps talk app and couldn't. I'll try it from the actual website.

I bevel with a 1/2 round file, then sand as Mr Hinkle suggests.
I suspect that you can cover the gouge with a deep bevel, if worse comes to worse, bevel then shorten.

I use a Dremel and a 220 grit drum sanding bit then sand by hand up the rest of the grits.

Cool idea, Wayne. I normally just take sandpaper, but yours sound quicker.
