rusticated/smooth transition

Post by bscofield »

What do you all think of the style of the transition from rusticated to smooth on this pipe? Not my pipe by the way...

I can see pookas point, however I think it is nice how the line of transistion repeats the slope of the stem and shank. It add's a nice rythem that is unexpected.

I, too, like the pipe. Though, I do think that the line could have been used more creatively. That is not to say that this pipe design isn't creative, because I really think that it looks good! :) However, perhaps providing a bulge in the smooth to make it look like a smooth pipe holding a rusticated bowl (does that make sense?) or smoothing the transition a bit. I agree with Artguy's comment on the repetition of the lines, that is nice, but there is potential for something more, perhaps in another pipe in this series as Rob suggested. Overall, it looks good Ben.
