Stamping Woes

Here's my latest pipe (don't get too excited about it because I'm about to make you cringe with disgust.)

Was careless with stamping and didn't properly support the shank. Bummer! Have I mentioned that I hate stamping my pipes?

Actually, it was a look of shock, then horror, then I laughed. What else can you do?

I did that a couple months ago, actually. Worked a real tough long acorn sorta thing, all fancy shit, sandblasted it, and then dropped it and broke it in half.

Check out all the stain in the brake. The wood was too soft there and would have broken whether you stamped it or not.

Agree. This was a case of the maker finding a flaw instead of the customer finding it.

Or to put it another and more lyrically philosophical way: it was always broken, Wayne just made it manifestly so.

You could fix it by inserting a piece of metal tubing (e.g. a Dunhill "inner tube") and glue it together. Not good for sale, but still a nice piece to smoke for yourself ...

The guy I sold it to has never even noticed the repair.

That's the plan. I'm going to drill it out to fit a bit of SS tube and epoxy it up and touch up the stain. Then it stays with me. If I could repair it as nice as Rad's repair job I wouldn't feel bad about selling it though.
