wall thickness?

Post by bscofield »

What do you experienced folks recommend as far as wall thickness goes? For the tobacco chamber that is... I am working on a cutty and realized that it was big and bulky. I just don't want to trim it down beyond a usable/sellable pipe.

What's everyone recommend?

I've smoked pipes with everything from miniscule to maxima bowl wall widths and the one that continues to astound me is a small, 20's vintage BBB blast Dublin (my Grandfather's) with walls maybe 1/4" thick. That pipe is the nicest flake pipe I own, hands down. It gets a bit warm, during the course of a smoke, but it delivers pure taste! I have no idea what kind of briar it was made from, but it's as hard as a rock and actually rings like muted bell if you flick it with your fingernail. Wish I had a bag of blocks with identical characteristics for my own pipemaking experiments!
